A messenger bag for guys in jeans?

We've already taken a little bit of stick for being stereotypical in our description of laptop bags--some of you think we should stick to describing the products rather than whether they're more masculine or feminine.

Nevertheless, we can't help but feel that this is a pretty apt description of this particular bag. We're not saying it's not for girls, just that its square shape and denim cut seem well-suited to the guy around town.

The classy Serena is a mixture of black imitation leather and rough denim.

Rather masculine in appearance, it's nice and deep, leaving plenty of room for A4 papers.

It's another bag that tries to break the mould of the traditional muted look for laptop bags, which is a bonus for those who don't really want the hassle of carrying a professional-looking bag.

Materials: denim and black imitation leather
Going round the outside of this bag, there's a single adjustable strap that allows you to wear it either as a satchel or from the shoulder.

There aren't any handles, meaning you can't carry it by hand, so be careful if you've got a bad back.

On the front, there's a small pocket in imitation leather which doesn't close into which you can slide your keys or a metro ticket, but nothing thicker.

A much bigger pocket, with zips, is on the back. Given the position, though, it too is only suitable for a notebook or a thin paperback.

A zip closes the whole thing.

The inside sleeve is made from nylon

On the inside, things are similarly spartan.

A single nylon sleeve is divided in two, with just one velcro strap to hold your laptop in place on one side, and room for an A4 file on the other.

Apart from that, there's just a small zipped pocket and three pen-holders, like on the other Agrodolce model we tested.

And that's it.  You can either try your luck shoving your mouse and power cables at the bottom of the bag or else stow them separately.

The finishing too is pretty flimsy, and we gave up counting the number of loose threads.

Fortunately the bottom of the bag is reinforced, so it remains upright when on the floor, but there's no external coating to protect the fabric of the bag itself.

The finishing is poor and there a lot of loose threads
No protection underneath the bag

Not enough pockets on the inside of the bag
Too many things have to rattle around in the bottom of the bag

This is a stylish bag that just about does the job. For everyday use, though, it just doesn't have enough pockets and pouches, and it's not very well finished.
