Following the release of USB 2.0 and eSATA models, the LaCie Rugged collection is now set to include its first USB 3.0 hard drive.
This new interface should ensure performances that match those of the Rugged eSATA hard drive we tested last week.
Aside from the new interface, this 2.5-inch external hard drive will have all the same features as existing Rugged models, including the splashproof design and rubber casing for shock protection of up to 2.2 metres. It's even supplied with a free a 1-year subscription to the Wuala online storage website, including 10 GB of backup space.
The 500 GB USB 3.0 model will sell for around £139.
