JVC is updating its range of pocket camcorders for the start of the new school year with these mini new PICSIO cameras, which are controlled by a touchscreen interface.

While mobile phones are still struggling to produce decent HD video, pocket camcorders continue to grow in popularity.  The latest arrivals are JVC's new PICSIO range, which include the GC-WP10 and the GC-FM2.

The big news is the addition of a 3'' touchscreen interface, and the new cameras can also be turned on their side so you can see more when playing your videos back.  According to JVC, the screen is sensitive enough to work with gloved fingers if you're going skiing this winter.

The PICSIO cameras film in HD (1080p at 25 fps or 720p at 50 fps) using MPEG-4, and record your video on an SD, SDHC or SDXC card.  For still photos, it uses a 5 Megapixel sensor.

As its name implies, the WP10 is waterproof up to a depth of three metros, while the FM2 has a built-in USB cable.  If you want to watch your video on a HD TV, you can you the HDMI output.  Neither camcorder has an optical zoom, but digital image stabilisation is included on both.

Like most of the other products in this segment, the new camcorders include software that allows you to upload your video straight to YouTube and Facebook, or import it into iTunes.  They're charged using their USB cable, and if you have a Mac, these camcorders work with iMovie.
