Intel announces small drop in prices

On July 19, Intel will be modifying the prices of some of its CPUs. As ever, as prices fall, some lower-end models are being removed from sale.

Intel always adjusts the prices in its range this way: product X's price falls to that of product X - 1, and in ranges with four products, the three most expensive fall in price while the cheapest is removed altogether, making room for a new, more powerful product at the top of the range.

The changes announced for next week will affect five entry-level and mid-range CPUs:
  • Core 2 Quad Q8300 – 2.5 GHz: falls from $183 to $163
  • Core 2 Duo E7500 – 2.93 GHz: falls from $133 to $113
  • Pentium Dual Core E5400 – 2.7 GHz: falls from $84 to $74
  • Pentium Dual Core E5300 – 2.6 GHz: falls from $74 to $64
  • Celeron E1500 – 2.2 GHz: falls from $53 to $43
