In addition to announcing its HC7800 - a DLP 3D projector - at IFA 2011 Mitsubishi has also informed us of an update to the firmware of its high end projector, the HC9000. A feature enabling reduction of ghosting will come on stream very shortly.

The feature is in fact a new movement compensation algorithm. We had a look at the results of the new algorithm when applied to a 3D animated film. It was very good indeed! There is still a slight trace of ghosting during very rapid movements, but it's slight. Jumpiness has been significantly reduced.

The test scene did not however allow us to see if the feature makes images look as if they've been shot on a camcorder.

The good news is that with the arrival of the HC7800 (around £2500), Mitsubishi has revised the price of the HC9000 downwards by almost £1000. It will however no longer be delivered with glasses. You'll have to pay around £100 per spectator for these.
