HP TouchSmart tm2: the ultra-portable cum tablet PC reaches our lab

It seems that this year really is set to be the time when touchscreen interfaces really take off.  With more and more manufacturers working on tablet PCs, HP has just renewed its existing range with this ultra-portable laptop whose screen rotates for use as a tablet.  We've just received the TouchSmart tm2 and will set to work on testing it soon.


Although we've only just taken a first look, here are a few photos of the new laptop to give you an idea of what it's like.  Our first impressions are pretty good, though, and the build quality of the aluminium body is excellent.  On the other hand, it looks like the glossy screen that's almost been polished to a mirror finish will take a little bit of getting used to.


If you're interested in the specs, the tm2-1050ef that we're testing has a 12.1'' touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.  It has an ultra-low consumption Intel Core 2 Duo ULV SU7300 processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive and a dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4550 graphics card.  We're also glad to see the inclusion of a a DVD writer and a large, matte touchpad.
