Meg Whitman, HP's new CEO, has already announced details of her strategy to set the company on an even keel.  The basic plan is to maintain the same general approach as her predecessor, but with the future of the WebOS and PC divisions set to undergo further reflection.

Just a month ago, HP announced plans to discontinue its WebOS products as well as the possibility that it would sell off its PC manufacturing division.

Whitman is already sounding more cautious.  She wants to 'investigate options to recognize the value of webOS software' and has promised that the final news on the firm's PC decision will come 'by the end of the year.'

Her first job, though, is going to be reassuring HP's investors, who are frustrated by the share price that's almost halved in just a year, down 47%.  According to the board, the new CEO is also going to have to both deliver the results she's promised and communicate them better.
