Swarovski is back

LG has called in a specialist in mass-produced crystals, Swarovski. It's a name you run into more and more in the world of high-tech.

But in this case, you have to wonder what the point of the crystals is. It's hard to tell them from ordinary resin rhinestones.

LG is aiming at the ladies with the Sparkling Triangle, model number HBM-530. It's a headset that's absolutely discreet and unobtrusive, as you can see from the photo...

Design: certainly on show, but you can feel it too

The Sparkling Triangle is anything but restrained when it comes to design. It covers half of your ear and takes up a lot of space. Yet it's still comfortable to wear, and the ear strap comes in handy to hold it in place. We also liked the charger and its micro USB connector, which is becoming the new standard for cell phones.

Audio Quality: no noise filtering makes things tough

It's not easy to make yourself understood with the HBM-530. The microphone has no projection and so is set far from your mouth. And there's no signal processing to clean up the signal, which obviously doesn't help. Hearing is no problem, on the other hand, especially since the silicone earpiece is well designed.

This may be a high-tech fashion accessory, but we wish LG didn't seem to have forgotten that the Sparkling Triangle's main function is still to make and receive calls.

The Sparkling Triangle tries to catch your eye with glitter. LG should have worked on catching your ear a little better…
