The HBM-580: an illuminated headset

There's an white LED at the end of the HBM-580--but what's the point?

The idea is to let you know when you have an incoming call or if the battery is getting low. It seems like an unusual idea, because with the headset in place, you can't see it ...

That's where LG's design is successful, though: the white LED is bright enough to catch your attention, one you get used to it.

The complete opposite of its Sparkling Triangle, LG also offers the HBM-580, a simple, discreet Bluetooth headset.  Some people might even find its styling rather masculine.

Design: reserved but effective

Essentially a block of black plastic, the HBM-580 is a very sleek headset that will easily go unnoticed.  The only surprise is the transparent tip.  The cap on the headphone is very standard and didn't pose any problems in particular, and there's also an ear-strap, which we were pleased to find.  Be careful with the battery life, though, which won't be winning LG any awards.

Audio Quality: could do better

Moving the microphone to the front of the headset means it can pick up sound reasonably well, but the anti-noise filter doesn't exactly wonders, and we'd like to see LG make some improvements in this area.  The headphone isn't a star pupil either, but it's good enough to hold a conversation.

That makes the HBM-580 a fairly average headset, with nothing out of the ordinary, apart from its rather stingy battery life.
