jays logoIt was announced yesterday that Swedish headphone manufacturer Jays is set to supply audio equipment for Samsung smartphones.

Jays—a firm whose reputation for top-quality products precedes it—has managed to find a powerful partner in the shape of Samsung, the undisputed world leader in smartphone sales.  For the time being, the deal is temporary and fairly restricted, in that the excellent v-Jays on-ear headphones are being bundled with selected smartphones in Asian markets for a month.

If the experiment proves to be a success, it's likely to be expanded because Samsung is in dire need of an audio partner.  In recent months, HTC has purchased Beats by Dr Dre technology for its smartphones, including both in-ear headphones and software for the handsets themselves, while Nokia has been relying on Monster, which used to distribute Beats products.

HTC is the most likely to be worried by this new agreement: the Beats audio equipment it has plumped for has long been criticised.  Jays, on the other, enjoys an excellent reputation.  More worryingly still, our mobile phone reviews have always shown that Samsung's smartphones have much better quality audio outputs than HTC's.
