As of this week around 60% of people in the UK have been able to receive HD TV. The cities covered so far are London, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Glasgow and central Scotland with BBC HD, ITV1HD and Channel 4's 4HD airing so far.

Up until now, HD TV was reserved for paying customers on networks such as Sky and Virgin Media but the roll out to Freeview channels should mean many more people watching in high definition. Although Freeview HD viewers won't have to pay a subscription they will have to buy a set-top box and an HD-ready TV.
