With more and more customers on the lookout for environmentally friendly products, you may have noticed product packaging becoming increasingly adorned with stickers and logos proffering all kinds of green credentials. But what exactly do these logos mean? We take a closer look.

Whereas some official government schemes involve strict testing, and other private certification schemes are based on third-party approval, many logos are simply a form of self-accreditation, the value of which depends entirely on the manufacturer's commitment and integrity. At their worst, self-designed logos are simply a meaningless attempt to 'greenwash' products. So how can you tell which logos to look out for?
