After the sat-nav jazz years, demand for these little route guidance devices is now levelling off. Manufacturers are having to come up with ever more ingenious ideas to give added value to their products and attract interest from consumers.

It’s TomTom (yes, again) that seems to be winning this particular game with the most attractive credit crunch GPS offering. TomTom have managed to ally the low budget and simplicity of the One with the route navigation capacities of IQ Routes. The fruit of this combination is the TomTom One IQ Routes Edition and it could well crush all competition at entry level.

Aiming at higher budgets are the Garmin Nüvi 865T and Medion GoPal P5235 TMC. These models will try to find their niche in what is a fairly depressed sector, with consumers seemingly turning to the cheaper segment en masse.
