The tests

Far Cry 2 uses a graphics engine that can be set for DirectX 9 or DirectX 10 rendering. We carried out these tests in both modes in Windows 7 and Vista. In XP however, only DirectX 9 is supported, with version 10 not available for XP.
We use the built in game test so as to evaluate the average number of frames per second. On the entry-level machine, graphics settings were put on high and antialiasing was disactivated. On the second machine we put the graphic settings on very high and antialiasing on x4..

With DirectX 10, the results are quite tight on our entry level machine and Seven only has the advantage by one frame per second. Windows XP doesn’t support DirectX 10 rendering.
Same machine but with DirecX 9 rendering. Once again there’s very little difference but Windows XP is in front by a hair with one frame per second more than the others.

On the high-end machine and with DirectX 10 rendering, once again Windows 7 shades it over Vista.

We finish up with DirectX 9 on the high end machine. A very poor score for Windows XP. We think this is due to the NVIDIA driver for the 64-bit version of the system. Otherwise, Seven carries the day again and displays 3 frames per second more than Vista.
