Firmware Updates for Nikon 1 J1 and V1

A firmware update has been released for Nikon's hybrid compacts, bringing compatibility with the FT1 adapter module. This in turn means that the Nikon 1 range of cameras can be used with F-mount lenses.

The FT1 adapter adds a crop factor of 2.7x to an F-mount lens, which could be pretty interesting for nature and wildlife photographers. For example, with the adapter ring, a 300 mm f/2.8 lens would en up with a focal length of 810 mm! On the other hand, landscape shots at short focal lengths are pretty much out of the question.
