Check this lot out: Netbooknews, who are at the FDP 2010 show in Japan, have got some pictures of new display prototypes from Samsung.

It seems the manufacturer is keen to make a splash with a whole range of original-looking displays on show.  Have a look at these two, for instance ...

On the site, there's also a large 5.3'' display that folds in half in the middle.

This new technology opens up a world of possibilities, but just what sort of products would benefit from a screen like this?

There's also another look at the transparent screen we've seen many times in the past: this time it measures 14'', has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and brightness of 250 cd/m².

Finally, there's an 'unbreakable' plastic display, which is incredibly thin but technologically somewhat behind standard LCDs: with a resolution of just 1024 x 600 pixels, it can only display 50% of the NTSC gamut, so not all of the shades usually available will be visible and its contrast ratio is at 1000:1, although we don't know if that's an actual contrast ratio or based on dynamic contrast.

Here are the weird and wonderful new prototypes on video:
