This is the story of Harman Bajwa, one of 350 million Facebook users, who saw his Facebook vanity URL, http://www.facebook.com/harman suddenly revoked. Facebook then seems to have sold the URL to Harman International.Legally Facebook reserves the right to revoke the names of users. In the current case, it seems as if the social networking site used this right for profit motives.
All’s well that ends well
No doubt aware of attracting bad publicity Facebook took the decision to return to Harman what belonged to Harman (Bajwa), who was first to create the URL and offer an apology: "We made a mistake in this instance and are in the process of returning the username to Mr. Bajwa. Once we understood the nature of our error, we moved quickly to resolve it. We want to apologize to Mr. Bajwa for being overzealous in our efforts and regret the disruption to his account."
When you think of the mass of personal information held by Facebook, it’s only natural for us all to be monitoring their use of personal data very closely!
