This GoFlex Slim hard drive should be pretty speedy thanks to its USB 3.0 interface (which also powers the drive). However, Seagate doesn't make any promises about data transfer speeds, with no figures quoted in the drive's specs. No matter—that's we're here for!
Like all HDDs in the GoFlex range, this Slim model comes with USM support. The USB 3.0 connection unit can therefore be removed and replaced with another optional interface (eSATA, Firewire 800, etc.). It's even possible to connect the HDD to the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Net media sharing station to turn it into a networked hard drive. This makes Seagate's HDD versatile and highly practical.
This external hard drive offers fast data transfer speeds. We measured the read speed at 106 MBps and the write speed at 104 MBps with big files. That's certainly good, but we have seen better. The LaCie Rikiki 1 TB managed speeds of 112 MBps and 116 MBps respectively in the same test conditions.
Measuring 125 x 78 x 9 mm (88 cm3) and weighing 160 grammes, the GoFlex Slim is easy to carry around in a bag or even a pocket.
