Memup Kiosk LS Series USB 3.0 2 TB

This Kiosk LS Series USB 3.0 drive is part of Memup's latest range.  With an up to date USB 3.0 interface on board, Memup can boast speeds up to ten times faster than older models that rely on USB 2.0.

The manufacturer suggests that this makes this perfect drive for demanding applications like video editing or graphic design work.  It should also be able to handle huge MKV, HD or H.264 movies in a matter of seconds.

Memup's site is covered in graphics that show how fast its new baby is compared to a traditional USB 2.0 device.  One example is a 13 GB MKV file, which takes just 172 seconds to copy, compared to 506 seconds over USB 2.0  That works out at speeds of 76 MB/s and 26 MB/s respectively.  It's clear that the hype about USB 3.0 being ten times faster than USB 2.0 is just that.  Let's see what the actual performance is like ...

Great read speeds

We still recorded some excellent speeds using our test procedure.  The Kiosk LS Series USB 3.0 2 TB reached a maximum read speed of 129 MB/s, which is quite simply incredible.  Write speeds are just as impressive at 73 MB/s.  This new product has finally managed to equal the Western Digital My Book 3.0.

Portability

3.5'' hard drives were ever designed to be carted about every day; that is, after all, what 2.5'' drives are for.  This drive is no exception to the rule and can only hope for a single star in this field.
