LaCie Porsche Design P’9220

LaCie has once again teamed up with Porsche Design to make a special-edition hard drive. And once again, the result is particularly impressive.

The Porsche Design P’9220 1 TB hard drive has a brushed metal casing with black plastic sides, giving it a subtly stylish look. The product finish is excellent too.



This external hard drive has a USB 3.0 interface for super-fast data transfer—after all, who ever heard of a slow Porsche?

We tested the 1 TB version of this hard drive but a 500 GB model is also available with a casing that's 3 mm slimmer. Note that you may find both models in the prices above so check the tech specs carefully before you buy.

Performances

As expected, the USB 3.0 interface puts this Porsche hard drive up there with the best models we've tested. With read speeds of 112.5 MBps and write speeds of 102 MBps, it comes in just behind LaCie's Rugged series, which are still the fastest external hard drives we've seen yet.

Portability

The Porsche Design P'9220 measures 130 x 77 x 15 mm, which makes it compact and easy to carry around. Plus, it weighs just 260 grammes—it's hard to do better than that!
