External hard drive test: LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 and Transcend 25D3

The LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 and Transcend StoreJet 25D3 drives join our product survey. We've also taken the opportunity to revisit the Western Digital My Book 3.0 test which we've put through our new protocol.

LaCie Rugged... the fourth! After the USB, then USB 2.0 and eSATA versions, here's the latest in the Rugged series: the USB 3.0!
And still just in the single 500 GB version.

Like the great majority of hard drive manufacturers, Transcend is throwing itself into the battle for USB 3.0 and is using this 500 GB StoreJet 25D3 as its battering ram.

The WD My Book 3.0 1 TB was back in our lab to be run through the same tests as the Transcend and LaCie. Verdict!
