Success breeds success! One of the specialists of mobile games on smartphones, PopCap has just been purchased by the US video games giant, EA, for USD 750 million (USD 650 million in cash and USD 100 million in shares). PopCap shareholders can also expect to receive another USD 500 million should the figures for year ending 2013 be favourable.
John Riccitiello, EA chief executive, says that the acquisition "accelerates us toward our goal of achieving USD 1 billion in digital business in FY12". PopCap, which counts Plants vs. Zombies and Zuma among its best selling titles, had a turnover of over USD 100 million in 2010.
