Eco drives test: Samsung EcoGreen F3 and WD Caviar Green WD10EACS

It's summer and we're surrounded by green... including when it comes to our hard drive review section, with the addition of two green models: the Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EACS and the Samsung EcoGreen F3 2 TB.
 

Following our test of the Caviar Green 1 TB in the 32 MB cache version (WD10EADS), we're coming back to Western Digital's green range with a test of the 16 MB cache drive (WD10EACS). We're also taking the opportunity to run it through our new test protocol, which we didn't yet have in place when we tested the 32 MB version.

The Samsung EcoGreen F3 is very much Samsung's answer to the Western Digital Caviar Green: silent and low energy, it doesn't excel in terms of performance and has been designed as a value data storage solution.
