Amazon tablets and e-readers have been flying off the shelves this Christmas with the online retailer reporting record-breaking sales and download figures.
Amazon has had a very good Christmas, selling an average of one million own-brand Kindle tablets and e-book readers per week in December 2011. With over four million sales in total, it's a new record for the firm.
An Amazon press release boasts that 2011 has been 'the best holiday ever for Kindle' and gives a detailed breakdown if all Amazon's bestsellers over the festive period.
All in all, the top-selling product was the Kindle Fire—which has been Amazon's number one bestseller since it launched 13 weeks ago—followed by the Kindle Touch and Kindle e-book readers.
The Kindle e-reader is, however, at the top of the bestseller list in certain countries where Amazon's tablet isn't available yet, including the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Kindle e-books have also clocked up record-breaking download figures, with 175% more sales between 23 and 24 December compared with 2010. And, rather predictably, Christmas day saw the largest number of e-book downloads over the holiday period.
