New Camera Test: Leica X1

In September last year, Leica caused something of a storm by announcing the X1: a compact camera with a large sensor--the 12 Megapixel CMOS also found in the Nikon D90 and Pentax K-x--but with a very traditional aesthetic, right down to the little red spot in the top corner that still commands a premium. In some ways, the X1 is a modern interpretation of this approach: it's compact enough to fit in a large pocket, has a bare minimum of extra features, an all-purpose fixed lens, a great sensor and faultless build quality. But will it live up to its heritage?
