Digital SLR Duel: Five Years Of Pentax Progress: K10D vs K-5

For many amateur photographers, the New Year sales represent a good time to pick up a new camera.  When it's time to change your digital SLR, though, you can be forgiven for wondering what's actually changed: will your new one be any better than the old?  That's a question we're hoping to answer with this duel, which pits the Pentax K10D, which was big news back in 2006, against the Pentax K-5, over a year old but still on sale today.

What difference does five years make?  Taking the Pentax K10D back into the lab was definitely a trip down memory lane for us--we didn't even give it an official review on the site back then, even if it was our favourite camera at the time.

So much for our own nostalgia, though: will the K10D feel as old as we did?  Can it keep up with its great-grandson, the Pentax K-5?  Lots has happened in the photography world over the past five years, so let's put old and new side by side and see how they perform ...
