Canon USA has published a statement concerning a faulty series of PowerShot S100 cameras. A disconnected part inside the camera is apparently causing a lens error in certain models.

The error causes the lens to get stuck out and is usually observed when using the camera in high temperatures and/or high levels of humidity.

The models affected have serial numbers from 29xxxxxxx to 41xxxxxxx.

Owners of faulty S100 models should contact Canon's local customer care centre. Repair costs will be covered by Canon regardless of the product's warranty status.
