Both of these mirrorless lens-switchers are the third-generation models in popular series of cameras. They don't have much in common otherwise, though, as the Sony NEX-5R is a close descendent of one of our favourite pocket-sized interchangeable lens compacts, while the GH3 ups the ante with tech specs to rival pro cameras and SLRs.

Panasonic Lumix GH3 review
Panasonic Lumix GH3

The Sony NEX-5R is the latest addition to Sony's successful NEX range of interchangeable lens compacts, following on from the NEX-5 and the NEX-5N. And it's a similar camera to the NEX-5R, since the main new feature here is Wi-Fi with a dedicated app store for adding extra features and functions to the camera.

The Panasonic Lumix GH3 is the third model in a series of Panasonic hybrids geared up for photos and video. But this third-gen version is decidedly more ambitious, with an all-weather finish, an upgraded viewfinder, Wi-Fi (but no app store) and plenty of advanced video options.
