These two Nikon compacts couldn't be more different: the Nikon AW100 is the firm's first high-resistance waterproof compact while the Nikon S8200 is a mid-range superzoom compact.

The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a tough, shockproof camera that's waterproof to 10 metres. It has a 28-140 mm zoom lens, a 16-Megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and a built-in GPS. On paper, it has everything it takes to rival the likes of the Panasonic FT3.

The Nikon Coolpix S8200 is a fairly classic superzoom compact with a 14x zoom lens and a 16-Megapixel BSI CMOS sensor. It fits into Nikon's range below the S9100 (18x zoom), offering a cheaper alternative with a decent set of tech specs.
