Films: Upscaling needs work

The problem with 22'' monitors in 16:10 is that whatever the size of your video signal, the screen will have to do adjust it to fit. Unfortunately, whether you're upscaling a 576p video, or downscaling a 1080p, the results are far from perfect. That's mostly because there's no image correction circuitry at all. You'll need sit about 1.5 metres back before the defects become invisible.

Note: during our tests, we couldn't make the L-2262Wd work as a display for a PS3 at all. Although we still don't know why, we thought we'd better let you know.
Digimate's L-2262Wd is the first piece of equipment from this manufacturer we've had the chance to test.  A first glance at its specs suggest it's destined mostly for office use.

It has a 16:10 panel, whose resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels might be easier on your eyes than the 1920 x 1080 found elsewhere.  On a display of the same surface area, you can display around 10% less information using the former--but what's left is larger and easier to see.

Handling: the bare minimum

Digimate hasn't exactly produced a 22'' monitor that's bursting at the seams with extras.  Video inputs are limited to VGA and DVI, and there's an audio input for the speakers.  That leaves it with our lowest possible score in this section, one star.

Responsivess: not for gamers

Average ghosting over ten frames

We weren't at all surprised by the responsiveness of this monitor.  Its specs say that it uses a 5 ms panel, and they're right.  In practice, that makes it perfectly useable for office work, but it struggles somewhat with games.  The rapid movements found in many games, including popular FPS titles, are very likely to appear blurry.

Colours: get ready to calibrate

That leaves colour handling as one of the few areas where the L-2262Wd could make up the lost ground.  Unfortunately, the colours it displays by default are far from perfect.  There is a very strong blue tinge, as well as an incorrect distribution of luminance across different shades of grey.  As a result, the average discrepancy between the colours requested by the graphics card, and those displayed on screen, or deltaE, is 7.5.  In practice, that's exactly the sort of gap that leaves you with a green jumper when the one you thought you were ordering online was brown.

Thankfully, you can improve the situation a little using the OSD.  You need to set the colour temperature to 6500 K, rather than the default setting of 'User'.  That does a lot to reduce the blue tinge and realigns a little the distribution of luminance across grey shades, but the final results are still unlikely to win Digimate any prizes.  The best deltaE we managed was 4.5; a value under 3.0 is generally considered acceptably low to be invisible to non-specialists.

These adjustments, however, have an adverse effect on the contrast.  Before adjusting the settings, the contrast ratio was almost 980:1, but once we had corrected the colour temperature, it fell to 850:1, just a little better than average.

This could well be the perfect affordable monitor for your office. If, on the other hand, you want to be able to do anything else with it, you would do better to look elsewhere in our tests, where you'll find a monitor that's better suited to your needs.
