According to Engadget, Dell has plans to release four new smartphones at the start of 2011.
All of the details were included in a series of internal corporate presentations that were leaked to the site. The documents prove that the American computer giant is working on four different smartphones due for release over the next few months.
Android, of course
Following the current trend for phones that offer streamlined access to contacts and social networking services, Dell has added its own software layer, like HTC did with the Sense service that runs on all of its Android devices.
First up is the Dell Thunder, the counterpart to the Lighting (see below), and it's a high-end touchscreen mobile with a 4.1'' display. It will run on a 1 GHz SnapDragon processor with 1 GB of internal memory that will be expandable using MicroSD cards. It will support 3G/3G+, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Other features include an 8 Megapixel camera and an FM radio. It will compatible with Flash 10.1, and like the Lightning, it will include support for future high-speed 4G/LTE mobile data networks.
The Flash gets a smaller 3.5'' touchscreen, runs on a 800 MHz Qualcomm processor, has a 5 Megapixel camera and has support for 3G/3G+, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.

Smoke
Finally the ultra-thin Dell Smoke will have a 2.8'' screen but a full-size physical keyboard.
The three Android phones will launch running version 2.2 of Android, which, following the dessert theme, is codenamed FroYo, for frozen yoghurt.
Window Phone 7 Series
The Lightning, meanwhile, is based on the hardware requirements that Microsoft has imposed for the new Window Phone 7 Series. That makes for a high-end handset with a 4.1'' multipoint touchscreen display and a full-size slide-out keyboard. Like the Thunder, it will run on a 1 GHz SnapDragon processor with 1 GB of internal memory that will be expandable using MicroSD card. It will support 3G/3G+, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Other features include a 5 Megapixel, playback of DivX video camera and an FM radio.
