The AMD Phenom II X4 970 takes on the torch carried by the X4 965. It has four cores and offers slightly higher clocks: 3.5 GHz for the four cores, which is an increase of 100 MHz on the 965.
In practice this gives a performance increase of around 5%, which places it just below the Intel Core i5 750 (4 cores, 2.66 GHz and Turbo at 3.20 GHz).
