Chromebook: Sales Even Lower Than Thought

Acer reports having sold around 5000 Chromebooks in June and July while Samsung says it sold even fewer.

In spite of the enthusiasm from Google boss, Eric Schmidt, who has lauded the rapidity of these machines, their security (viruses are no problem according to Schmidt) and all the cloud applications, the market is not convinced.

The online services angle is in fact working against Chromebooks as they don't have full functionality once they're offline. DigiTimes, who published the sales figures, reckons the concept isn't yet matched to current usage.
