Combat vs Second Hand Market: Ubisoft Launches Its Licence

Following Sony, it's over to Ubisoft to take on the second hand games market.

The Uplay Passport is the latest online video gaming licence and gives the holder 'unique' access. This type of licence is already used by THQ, Electronic Arts and Sony (who introduced the PSN pass most recently) and has now been adopted by Ubisoft. The first Ubisoft title to succumb will be Driver: San Francisco and others such as Assassin's Creed Revelations or Far Cry 3 are likely to follow soon.

This less than pleasant trend, at least for gamers, is gaining popularity among games publishers. For any second hand title you buy, you'll now need to shell out an extra $10, with the dollar-to-sterling exchange rate likely to be as unrealistic as ever!

This unique code policy discourages any sharing between friends or brothers and sisters - with their eyes on the cash, the games companies are sending out a rather unfriendly message.
