Casio has introduced the Exilim S200 and Exilim Z800, two compacts still very much in the image of the Exilim range: slim and rather elegant.
The Casio Exilim S200 is the rightful descendant of the S (Slim) range with a thickness of around 1.8 cm. It uses the Exilim Engine 5 image processing processor as well as a rather dark (f/3.2-5.9) 4x wide angle lens (27-108 mm) and a 14 MP sensor (1/2.3"). Stabilisation is assured by deplacement of the sensor.
At the back there's a 6.9 cm LCD screen with 230,000 pixels. There's a dedicated button for HDTV 720 (20 fps only and mono sound) video recording.
The Exilim S200 will be available for £200 by the end of the month in silver, orange, blue, black and pink.
Not quite as flat but still just as colourful (black, silver, pink, red, yellow and blue), the Exilim Z800 has much the same spec as the S200: same sensor, same lens, same screen size
Both compacts also share certain technologies such as automatic retouching of portraits or an analysis and improvement feature for images close to that already present in Panasonic compacts. Single Frame Super Resolution acts in a similar way by analysing the composition of images and adapting the digital processing according to the nature of the images: landscape, portrait, colour, details...
Astonishingly, the Casios also offer Super Resolution Zoom which allows you to gain 1.5x with no loss in quality.
The Casio Exilim Z800 will also be available in August for around £150.
