After the failure of its SED project, could Canon be about to make a return to manufacturing monitors?  The manufacturer was showing off not one, but two, new displays at the Canon Expo.

The first is ready to go into production now: a 'traditional' 30'' display, with 4 Megapixels spread out across 2560 x 1600 pixels, it's aimed at medical users.

The second was a prototype, and is another 30'' display, but this time, with double the resolution: 8 Megapixels (3620 x 2260 we're assuming).  It's not aimed doctors, this time, but creative professionals working with photos and video.

We couldn't find out anything else about it, apart from the vague admission that it uses LCD technology.  Whether that means it's an IPS, PVA or MVA display is anybody's guess ...

One thing's for sure, though: given how thick it is, this screen clearly doesn't have LED backlighting.  And it's not OLED either, if the poor viewing angles and not especially deep blacks are anything to go by.  We're betting it's probably got an IPS panel inside ...
