Canon Ixus 120 IS also in the shops--is it the star compact of 2010?

Officially, the Canon Ixus 120 IS isn't replacing any other cameras in the manufacturer's range.  But from what we've seen so far, it could threaten a lot of current models, and not just Canon's.

It takes the same frame of the ultra compact Ixus 100 IS, and improves it considerably.  The new camera gains a 4x zoom which begins at 28 mm, films in 720p HD and has a HDMI output to connect it straight to your TV.

It doesn't have a touchscreen--which isn't necessarily indispensable--but that makes it noticeably cheaper than the new Ixus 200 IS, which has also just been released.

The Ixus 120 IS comes in four colours:
