The Sony HDR-AX2000E is a semi-professional camcorder that was quietly released at the beginning of the year. It also marks the end of the line for Sony's love affair with HDV cassettes.

Following the FX7 and the FX1000, Sony's AX2000E is the first top-of-the-range AVCHD prosumer camcorder. It films in Full HD and can store footage to either SDHC or Memory Stick memory cards.

It's a model that could well appeal to professional film-makers too, as for the first time, Sony has included XLR microphone sockets in what's essentially a consumer camcorder.
