BlackBerry App World Celebrates 10,000 Apps

BlackBerry App World may have recently celebrated breaking though the 10,000 app mark, but it's still trailing way behind the Apple and Android online application stores.

RIM announced the happy news on its Twitter page with a post proclaiming '10,000 apps strong and growing'. It's great news for the BlackBerry manufacturer too, as its App World has grown from 2,000 applications to 10,000 applications in the space of just a year.

It's certainly good progress, but the BlackBerry App World still pales into insignificance compared with the 250,000 applications in Apple's App Store or the 100,000 applications in the Android Market.

That said, RIM's handsets have historically been associated with business users (even though they're now popular among the general public too), which could perhaps explain why developers have been less enthusiastic about working on compatible apps.
