I’ve just got my hands on a global press release from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announcing the release of James Cameron’s Avatar on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on 26 April.

The US release date of 22 April has been scheduled to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Here’s an extract from the press release, which makes no mention of a 3D version but has high hopes for the Blu-ray:

'LOS ANGELES, March 16 – Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment today announced that it will launch director James Cameron’s history-making motion picture AVATAR on Blu-ray Disc and DVD […] everywhere in the United States and Canada on Earth Day, April 22.'

'AVATAR on Blu-ray presents the ultimate high definition experience for home viewing audiences.
