A good monitor for your PC
Without trimming or deforming the image, the E4000 series can easily serve as a monitor for your PC. In addition, the low afterglow can open the possibilities for all types of games.
Design and ergonomics
Breaking with the usual design of its televisions, as we mentioned above, Sony had the idea of making the frame of the E4000 series like that of a painting’s. There is thus a white space between the gray/black body and panel. We have to admit this was a good idea as it can be practical to transform your TV into a big digital photo frame during family reunions or diners amongst friends. And can be the occasion to display a slideshow of the previous gathering, revive a few good memories, etc.
Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed by the finish of the frame. The texture is plastic, not smooth enough, and the color too dark. In addition, the difference in size between the lower and lateral parts is too obvious and hurts the overall design – as you can see in the photo on the left. Finally, various logos printed on the frame negatively affect the ''frame'' aspect : there is one displaying Sony’s name on the lower middle edge, a Bravia logo is found on the upper hand left, and startup and volume icons were placed on the lower right face instead of on the side. In the end, we came to the conclusion that the picture frame is attractive from afar, but up close it’s another story. The white base, even if it marries well with the overall color, adds a little more to the “low end” feel of this product. We won’t dwell on it as this TV is mainly meant for wall fixation. Otherwise, the remote is also white – at least when unpacking it. We wouldn’t wager it stays this color after several months of use.
For those that like even lighter colored frames, a light gray version is also available under the E4020 name.
Finally, menus are based on those from the PS3 and there is a modern, practical and very attractive design. In this area, Sony largely surpasses its rivals.

The ''frame'' version of the W4000
For other aspects, please see our test of the W4000 series with which the E4000 shares all other characteristics. We find the same amazing contrast, excellent display quality and large viewing angles.

Although the rescaling of SD sources is not as good as that of a quality home media player, it is still satisfactory and amongst the current best of what other TVs are capable of.
Note that Movie mode has a sharpness level of 2 by default. Do not hesitate to increase this value up to 15 with good SD sources.

We didn’t like the finish

White remote and therefore will look dirty after a while

A model derived from the W4000 series that has a ''frame'' look, the E4000 is well equipped for a quality display but look is a bit disappointing.
