With a PC
Like most current models, this Regza XV515DG can serve as a monitor for your PC. Connected in 1920x1080 in HDMI, reactivity is good although there is a slight "black ghosting" effect.
Native resolution works quite well if we take the time to change the display mode to "Real format" or "Native".
Native resolution works quite well if we take the time to change the display mode to "Real format" or "Native".
This television is equipped with a Full HD 1920x1080 LCD panel. An MPEG-4 digital tuner has been integrated which opens the door to the HD digital cable which will be emitted starting in late October 2008. Like on more and more models, the base pivots.
Design and ergonomics
Contrary to other manufacturers that wager on original frames with Plexiglas or lively colors, Toshiba remains sober and rather classic. The frame is black lacquer with a border made to look like an aluminum finish.
Menus aren’t overly stylish meaning they cannot compare to those of such manufacturers as Sony or LG which made efforts in this domain for their latest high end models.
Contrast is average
Under our sensor, the XV515DG quickly shows its lack of contrast. Dynamic contrast activated by default enables attaining an excellent depth in black (0.1 cd/m²) but also prevents white from surpassing 90 cd/m². By deactivating this option, we measured an impressive brightness (416 cd/m²) ; however, the depth of black then becomes unsatisfactory (0.49 cd/m²). In the end, we obtained a good result by setting the screen between these two extremes.
Whatever the setting, contrast thus varies between 690:1 and 860:1 or a rather average value.
Very good in HD, not in SD
With its Full HD panel and nice colors, this television offers an excellent display of Blu-ray and other HD sources.

In HD like in SD, the CIE graph implies nice colors which we do indeed find in movies – on the condition you slightly lower color saturation.
On the other hand, SD sources suffer from rescaling which can be perfected. It considerably diminishes the precision of the image and produces a blurred effect. Moreover, we recommend deactivating noise reduction filters (DNR) otherwise this effect will be even more pronounced. Those who really like to savor their DVDs should also opt for a player that will do better rescaling so that the TV can display the image delivered in 1080p.

DVD rescaling is too blurry and unsatisfactory. A good DVD player is preferable for this job.
As for this TV in SD, it’s possible to slightly improve precision by playing with the sharpness adjustment, although the end result isn’t overwhelmingly good.
Finally, viewing angles are rather large and four viewers can sit comfortably from a distance of 3 meters.

SD rescaling lacks sharpness
-
Lack of contrast

It’s a good Full HD television; however, its defect is the poor rescaling of SD sources.
