A plasma screen: subjection to burning >
G15 subjected to 1 hour

The Samsung PS42C96HD has made way! Our poor guinea pig has earned its rest, not 4 weeks worth as that didn’t prove sufficient, but much longer. Because we’ve found a new model to put through its paces! The Panasonic G15 (the Viera TX-P42G15) has been designated as the voluteer to participate in our new test: at Cinema setting, 1 hour fixed image with our homepage and then rest.

The optimists have been telling us that Panasonic TVs have super powers that prevent ghosting / traces from remaining on the screens. Poor TV, now we have you in our hands… But:

The optimists were right!

Three cheers for Panasonic! After display of our page for an hour, we had a good look at our screen, and we saw nothing! No traces of marking at all.

No need to test it with a grey or snowy screen or by turning the TV off as there wasn’t any ghosting to get rid of.

Is the Panasonic G15 completely immune?
  • Over an hour at Cinema setting: yes.
  • Over a longer period, we have been able to establish that no, even if our results are nothing like what we saw with the Samsung.
It isn’t because this TV does much better than the previous plasma that you can treat it any old how. We’ll come back to this in some tests to follow. For now however, let’s savour the fact that while some plasmas need 30 to 45 minutes of recovery time for marks to disappear, others don’t as their screens remain entirely clear of traces. This calls for some celebration!
