On the Nikon D60
As with all the other memory cards we test, we put this one through its paces on the Nikon D60, a digital SLR capable of producing up to three images per second in burst mode.
With such a slow write speed, this card just couldn't keep up, and halved the rate that the D60 could take photos, resulting in a framerate of just 1.5 fps for the first nine photos in a burst of thirty, and then even more slowly after that.
With such a slow write speed, this card just couldn't keep up, and halved the rate that the D60 could take photos, resulting in a framerate of just 1.5 fps for the first nine photos in a burst of thirty, and then even more slowly after that.
So does that make it the best of the best and the fastest in the West? Erm, no … which reminds us once again that it's always worth taking such claims with a pinch of salt.
Speed Tests
Both our reading and writing data tests gave resolutely average results.
For writing data to the card, the best speed we recorded was 6.2 MB/s, which just isn't fast enough for a digital SLR in burst mode, although it will do for a mobile phone, an MP3 player or a GPS.
Things are better when it comes to reading data from the card, but this is still a long way from being an exceptional card.
It managed 14 MB/s, a relatively modest score compared to the SanDisk Extreme III card of the same size and class which raced along at 17.7 MB/s.
Copying all four gigabytes of data of the two cards varies by up to a minute: while the SanDisk card can do the job in under four minutes, this Verbatim model takes 4 minutes 50 seconds.

-
Slightly lower than average write speeds
-
Not suitable for a digital SLR

Despite promising the best results in its publicity, this card is rather average--too average, in fact--and if its write speeds are suitable for a GPS or a mobile, it won't do in a top-of-the-range camera.
