On the Nikon D60
As we mentioned in the test write-up, this isn't really a memory card that will work well with high-end digital cameras like the Nikon D60 we use in our tests.
When we did our usual photography test--taking a burst of thirty photos--the memory card slowed our camera down to just 1.5 frames per second, half what it can achieve with more powerful storage on board.
When we did our usual photography test--taking a burst of thirty photos--the memory card slowed our camera down to just 1.5 frames per second, half what it can achieve with more powerful storage on board.
It's a worrying start, even if the manufacturer does modestly claim that it can reach 2 MB/s for writing files and 4 MB/s for reading data.
If these figures are right, this will definitely be one of the slowest cards we've looked at.
Average Speeds
For every card we test, we look at the real read and write speeds it achieves by copying files of different sizes from our computer onto the card, and then back again in the opposite direction.
During this process, we recorded faster speeds than those suggested by Verbatim.
Overall, this card is about as fast as the manufacturer's 8 GB Micro SD card which we've also looked at, but still below average.
Average file copy rates were around 6.2 MB/s for writing and 14.1 MB/s for reading, which isn't fast enough for a digital camera but will just about do in a phone or GPS receiver.
All in all, this card doesn't compare at all favorably with something like the Dane-Elec 8 GB Micro SDHC card, which manages much faster speeds all round and holds four times as much data.

Despite not promising very fast transfer rates, this card does a little better than expected. It's still not enough to make it a worthwhile investment, unless you only need to use it for non-demanding tasks like games on your mobile or recording locations on your GPS.
