The Philips SA6045 is the small format version of a GoGear model already tested, the SA6145. The former is therefore much more compact and light at 135 x 39 x 195 mm for 75 g and it has a 2.2 inch screen compared to the 3 of its big brother. The SA6145 was disappointing, so how about the SA6045 ?
In terms of ergonomics and finishing touches, we have almost the same praise. The exception, is that the « Lock » button moves a little. Otherwise, it «has a glossy black finish that is very sensitive to finger smudges and scratching. The backside is covered with good quality black and gray plastic. We have to admit the overall look is very attractive. Buttons do not show any play and everything generally seems quite solid. In short, the SA6145 feels rather nice in your hand. » In addition, although the SA6045 is a little bit thicker, it has the advantage of fitting more easily into your pocket.
Same appearance, the same defects?
While the body is the same, should we expect the same defects? What we already know is that the definition of the image will be much better because the screen resolutions are exactly the same. Also, we should keep in mind that the external speaker is gone and the battery is less imposing. And for the rest?
In the terms of the interface, it’s still as unpleasant and here there could have been a little more effort. Icons are rather misleading, menus are slow and the display stutters. In short, it’s not great. However, we should point out that the SA6145’s big defect of sound distortion during navigation has disappeared. Moreover, the interface is a lighter version as there is no longer navigation by album cover.
As for audio quality, we have the same criticism: « Sound wasn’t clear, basses were heavy, mediums and highs not present enough and imprecise. In addition, sound lacked intensity and there was a significant amount of parasite noise in pauses. »

- Design and finishing touches
- Slow to display and in navigation
- No pouch or dust cloth
- No padding with earphones
- Mediocre audio and video quality
- No conversion of Divx

While the SA6145 has big defects, it’s a little better with this ''lighter'' model; however, either way it’s still a rather mediocre portable player.
