Compared to the Dell at the same price (when the 3007WFP HC is on sale that is), without a card player, a simple sRGB gamut instead of a wide gamut, and without HDCP compatibility on the DVI input, it isn’t easy for this Samsung. So what are the arguments for the SyncMaster 305T ?  There are two major ones:

- it’s a factory pre-calibrated screen.  It has good color fidelity from the start and the average difference measured by our colorimeter is 3.3, versus 6.1 for the Dell screen.

- brightness is much more homogenous on the entire panel.  The 3007WFP made good progress in this area between 2006 and 2007 models.  For Dell maximum brightness gaps went from over 50 % on certain models to 21% on the product we received for testing.  Samsung does even better with a 15 % difference between two points.

We could logically pick this screen, but our heart says...

Samsung proves that in addition to perfectly mastering the electronic components of its monitor – with good color fidelity and very good reactivity – this brand has also worked enormously on the fixation of components.   We know this because brightness homogeneity depends on light reflectors, their orientation, and a fixation capable of absorbing shocks during the transport from the factory and then again from stores to us.  Here, we are convinced of its fine quality and up until now only one screen has managed such prowess in this area.  This was a monitor that didn’t have CCFL tube backlighting like as is the case here but rather an LED matrix.

In the end, the 305T seems to benefit more from its presettings and the attention and care taken in production.  However, it has trouble in really winning us over.  On the one hand we have its fine construction, and on the other, Dell’s wide gamut, a newer design than the very classic 305T, and a card player.  For us the 3007WFP HC is more attractive despite its big defect in preset colors.

The 30 inch is still a dream for many, but it’s rare to have an actual use for a diagonal of this size. It’s simply for kicks and this is exactly the 305T’s weakness. It’s too classic compared to the Dell 3007WFP HC. On the other hand, some of you may prefer its sober side.
