The B6000 is an almost perfect copy of the B7000, which we've already reviewed.  The main difference between the two models is that the former doesn't have the Internet@TV service, meaning it can't access online content.  But because this feature remains incompatible with similar services from other manufacturers, it's yet to really take off with consumers.

That makes the B6000 an excellent alternative to the B7000, as the two models share many strengths, including:
  • An excellent contrast and great display.  However, dynamic contrast remains active at all times, and if you try to turn it off in the menus, then you can only limit its effects, but not completely deactivate it.  To do that, you need to gain access to a hidden menu.
  • Motion Plus 100 Hz to make rapid movements more fluid and eliminate jerkiness.  It also does a lot to combat ghosting.
For more information, we suggest you consult the test of the Samsung B7000.

Apart from the Internet@TV features, the two models have an identical specification, and you can expect identical results.  The only exception is that some manufacturers fit different sized televisions with panels from different sources.  In that case, our comments are only valid for the panel that we originally tested.  Contrast, black levels, colour handling and ghosting are all subject to change from one panel to another.

Manufacturers who do fit the same panel in all of the TVs in a range can expect the same results across the whole range.  The only factor which could be prone to slight variation is the brightness, producing slightly different contrast.  According to our own tests, and assurances from manufacturers, the results of one TV can accurately be applied to others in the range.

Excellent contrast

-

Excellent image quality for most scenes

-

Backlit remote control

-

Very thin, stylish frame

-

Impossible to deactivate dynamic backlighting

-

Too pale in dark scenes

-

Glossy screen suffers from reflections

-

Average quality sound

With LED backlighting, the B6000 produces an excellent image quality which will wow the majority of viewers. Enthusiasts, though, are likely to be irritated by the fact you can't deactivate the dynamic backlighting. Either way, all viewers will need to watch out for reflections from the glossy screen.
