Superb on the desktop. But underneath…
The LCD22VAL is thin, attractive and its base is light. On the desktop, it’s perfect. Underneath (on the socket level) it’s not as great. To make the monitor thinner, the manufacturer opted for an external transformer. It’s rather big and heats up to 40°C rather quickly (luckily it doesn’t go beyond).
However, this power source does avoid a classic pitfall typical of screens of this type and at least power consumption isn’t extreme. The LCD22VAL turns out to be normal in this domain at 39 Watts with classic settings and 27 Watts with brightness reduced by half (for graphic artists or working comfortably at night).

The LCD22VAL has three main things going for it: a nice “light” look, accurate colors and numerous video inputs. Here is a very nice screen for work, watching movies and viewing photos, or for connecting a console to play the occasional game. Actually, it’s better not to be a gaming fanatic because the LCD22VAL is more attractive than it is reactive. Moreover, it’s more suited to Wii type games than FPS with a PS3, despite its HDMI on the back.
Let’s start with what was well done on this monitor. It has numerous video inputs including HDMI, DVI, VGA, YUV and S-Video. This is enough to connect everything you could want, from a game console to DVD or Blu-Ray player as well as a camcorder or camera. Another good point is that it has a (small) 2 port USB 2 hub. We verified speeds and they are equivalent to those of our PCs and not limited.
Finally, although the 22VAL is better than average, it isn’t excellent in terms ergonomics. There is no vertical adjustability, pivot mode, rotation of the screen, card reader or webcam.
Numerous inputs, a nice look and good color fidelity
The second advantage of the 22VAL is its accurate colors. There are correct default settings, particularly the Video mode found in the monitor’s OSD which is amazingly well balanced. On our test machine, the average difference between perfect colors was only 2.6. This is below the symbolic ‘’3’’ mark, often synonymous with screens well adapted for graphic designers. The other excellent surprise is the depth in black at 0.25 cd/m² which means a very high measured contrast nearing 800:1.
These accurate colors are useful in the proper display of photos, movies (it doesn’t reduce shimmering which is superior to that of TVs, step back from the screen!) and games. Either way, as we mentioned above, the LCD22VAL isn't the best for this last use. It has slightly more afterglow than other models such as the ViewSonic VX2240w and Iiyama E2201W-B1. If you aren’t one to minutely analyze a screen’s reactivity, it won’t be a problem. In fact, it’s something you will quickly become accustomed to and after that it’s a product with a particularly attractive quality/price ratio.
PS: Sensy is the new brand name for Daewoo screens.

- Colors are accurate in Video mode, black is deep
- Elegant and attractive
- Numerous inputs including HDMI and YUV
- Nice quality/price ratio
- 2 port USB hub
- Reactivity in the low average
- No zero dead pixel policy
- TN panel = small lower viewing angle = screen darkens

This screen has a good quality / price ratio but the focus isn’t on reactivity. Its main problem is the external power transformer which is big and heats up.
