However, there are still 3 areas that need improvement.
L'rescaling, or in other words, the ability to compensate for defects created by stretching the image, is far from the quality of good TVs like the Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ81E.
To this we can add small cuts in fluidity that are quite noticeable when playing Blu-ray discs.
Finally, and this is probably the biggest of the three (but also the most remediable by Samsung) is that we have to choose between a limited number of shades of black or a gray “veil” on the screen due to poor gradation of options in the OSD .
Note that Samsung includes a remote with the T240HD which enables accessing the OSD while you stay seated. This can be handy when changing sources or brightness levels...
Updated: 2008-10-20 - Test date: 2008-08-18
- multiple video inputs for connection to a computer, game console, home media player...
- a correction chip for reducing noise in video.
- a 24 inch Full HD panel.
- a very stylish look.
- and an unofficial warranty which is now confirmed by Samsung for the absence of dead pixel or sub-pixels upon unpacking – a nice effort on their part! !
Ergonomics
The screen is neither vertically adjustable nor does it pivot. Nevertheless, it receives a good note in this part of the test because of the numerous connections in both audio and video, the integrated speakers, a remote, and digital tuner.
Is the tuner SD or HD?
Is the T240HD equipped with an SD or HD tuner? Unfortunately, it’s impossible to respond with any certainty. As amazing as this may sound, Samsung sometimes says that it’s SD (standard definition) and at other times (more often) that it’s HD.
If you ask European representatives, they will tell as they did us that the T240HD’s production and distribution was actually delayed in order to assure the presence of an HD tuner. Also, the monitor’s American specifications also clearly specify the same thing. On the other hand, the manufacturer’s French site has a very approximate translation mentioning a strange integrated ''HDTV reception card''. (Is this a translation error of built-in full HD 1080p digital HDTV tuner?).
Conclusion: officially the tuner is HD; however, we will have to wait until the transmission of this format at the end of the year to really know.
Color fidelity
By default, the screen offers accurate colors even if some may notice a slight blue dominance. By changing into "Warm" mode, this defect goes away and the screen gains another star in this area.

To obtain a fifth star, it would need better depth in black which was rather deceiving:
Unfortunately, in games it’s only average
However, Samsung forgot about gamers or at least does not pamper them here. This TV monitor encourages connection to a computer or console but this is accompanied with noticeable afterglow (that is quickly forgotten once in the game!) and an input lag of roughly two images. This is nothing overly dramatic, but it is unfortunate when we know that these two defects are absent from other screens. - Ergonomics, video inputs, remote
- Color fidelity
- 0 dead pixel policy for 15 days
- Video correction chip
- Quality of video display is better than average but not as good as Samsung’s TVs
- Reactivity could be better
- Contrast: black lacks depth
- Doubts about the digital tuner: is it SD or HD? HD most likely.
- TN panel equals lower angle darkens
- A VA panel would have been better for movies
